Intravenous iron supplementation for correcting renal anemia in hemodialysis patients – critical approach to current practices based on single-centre experience

چکیده
INtroductIoN In patients on hemodialysis due to the chronic renal failure the yearly loses of iron can exceed 3.0 g, which is 4-10 times more as compared to healthy population (1). the increased iron losses resulting from: – intrahemodialyser clotting, – postdialysis bleeding from needle insertion site, – the incomplete blood return at cessation of the procedure, – extensive laboratory examinations required to follow and treat hemodialysed patients, – occult gastrointestinal bleeding, can add 6-7 mg, or even more, to the physiological daily iron losses of 1-2 mg. the occult blood losses *ryszard Gellert, tomasz Żelek, dorota daniewska, Anna Kajczuk-Kowieska, danuta Kobus

The effect of administration of iron supplementation in patients under hemodialysis
Anemia is one of the major complications in patients with chronic renal disease and plays an important role for weakness and disability in these patients.therefore, treatment of anemic disorder parallel with hemodialysis play an effective role in improvement of health in such patients.the aim of this study was to evaluate the iron status and effects of iron supplement on the hematological fac...
متن کاملThe role of secondary hyperparathyroidism in anemia of end stage renal disease
Introduction: secondary hyperparathyroidism is listed among the possible reasons for intensifying the anemia and resistance to erythropoietin therapy in hemodialysis patients. Although its exact mechanism is not entirely clarified, but shift of bone marrow cells to adipocytes, bone marrow fibrosis and decreased calciteriol can be the causes. However, the role of secondary hyperparathyroidism in...
متن کاملIntensification of Anemia by Secondary Hyperparathyroidism in Hemodialysis Patients
The excessive amounts of parathyroid hormone in secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPTH) is suggested to interfere with normal erythropoiesis. In SHPTH, during chronic renal failure, due to the impairment of erythropoietin synthesis, this effect is more pronounced. In the present study the role of secondary hyperparathyroidism in the severity of anemia was evaluated in hemodialysis patients (n=3...
متن کاملEffect of Receiving Intravenous Vitamin C on Dyslipidemia in Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis
Background: Dyslipidemia is one of the major causes of the production and progression of atherosclerosis in hemodialysis patients. Vitamin C is able to improve dyslipidemia by reducing an oxidative stress. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of vitamin C supplementation on dyslipidemia in hemodialysis patients. Methods: In a randomized, double-blind clinical trial, 160 patient...
متن کاملInvestigation of Lipid Peroxidation Products and Antioxidant Enzyme Activities in End-Stage Renal Disease Patients
Background: Intravenous application of iron preparations which is a routine treatment of anemia in hemodialysis patients with end-stage renal disease can lead to iron overload in the body. Redox-active iron can catalyze the formation of hydroxyl radicals and initiation of lipid peroxidation, increase oxidative stress and speed up the development of complications in these patients. Objective: In...
